Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Operator B

Reports To: Department Manager with direction of Supervisor/Team Leader

Shift/Hours: This is a 12 hour a day work schedule (7:00 am – 7:00 pm)

Starting Rate: $24.77/hour with the ability to earn more

We are in search of an experienced Wastewater Operator to operate, monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes. This means improving energy efficiency, managing water and wastewater, and recovering resources from that waste. The value and importance lie in doing this within the confines of safety, cost-effectiveness and lastly in an innovative manner for the local communities that impacts the world.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains proper operation for the treatment plant to control flow and adjustment of values

  • Collect and test samples of water and sewage, employing analysis standards and testing equipment, to ensure treated water meets or exceeds EPA standards

  • Adjust equipment controls to purify and clarify water as well as process and dispose of wastes

  • Inspect machinery and maintain surveillance on operating conditions, gauges, and meters to ensure continued efficient operations as well as detect malfunctions

  • Record and track plant and equipment operational data, including meter and gauge readings, and observe a regular schedule for maintenance and upgrades to prevent system breakdowns

  • Record readings of the treated water as well as daily water meter readings to coincide with document compliance

  • Communicate with supervisors, coworkers, other employees and management regarding operations, plant conditions and other essential information

  • Collaborate with upper management to determine the best practices, equipment, upgrades, and other operational aspects to contribute to ecologically friendly, cost-effective impacts of the facility’s water treatment

Job Requirements:

  • Successfully pass the Environmental Assessment

  • MUST possess Wastewater Certification within 12 months of employment

  • Valid state CDL Class B driver’s license

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in wastewater treatment

  • Be able to perform and document various tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant

  • Evening and weekend availability

  • Willingness to work in a wet, dirty environment

  • Ability to perform long periods of standing, reaching, and bending


Working Conditions:

  • Wastewater treatment plant operators work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to noisy machinery, unpleasant odors, and such potential hazards as slippery and confined areas

  • They may have to climb, reach, and stoop

  • Because wastewater treatment plants operate twenty-four hours a day, plant operators work eight-hour shifts on a rotating basis. They balance night, weekend, and holiday work schedules
