The Department of Hematology and the City of Hope National Medical Center is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow with post-baccalaureate job experience to work in the virology and vaccine development fields. You will conduct laboratory technical procedures in support of a cancer vaccine development project. You will also perform molecular biology, virology and cell biology experiments.
You will be expected to keep a careful record of the experiments performed. Independence from day-day instruction is the goal of this training position to develop you into a self-sufficient independent investigator. Weekly interactions with supervisor are a requirement and periodic emails and texts back and forth are to be expected to maintain pace and momentum.
As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for the following laboratory techniques:
· PCR, nucleic acid and protein electrophoresis, Western Blot, bacterial culture, plasmid manipulations including vector assembly using online sequence analysis programs, and cell culture techniques requiring application of sterile technique with experience in eukaryotic cell culture.
· Additional requirements include virology expertise including manipulation of viruses, recombinant virus derivation, amplification, expansion and purification.
· Virus infections of cell cultures will be a routine procedure.
Qualifications
· Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology or other related field.
· Extensive experience in a research or diagnostic laboratory is desired
· Immunology background is helpful but not a requirement.
