The successful candidate:
This position is Full-time Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm.
The ideal, strongly preferred candidate would have experience with surgical and cytology specimens, including pathology specimens from frozen sections, surgery and imaging cases.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Laboratory Services, the Laboratory Assistant will assist the pathologist(s) and /or pathologist assistant following established standards and practices to support regulatory (compliance with CAP and JCAHO) and process improvement initiatives. The pathology technical assistant will assist in the technical and clerical needs of the pathology department.
Receive, accession, and log all tissue from surgical procedures, frozen sections and cytology cases.
Responsible for processing cytology specimens, prepping all fresh specimens, change and maintain all stains, perform maintenance on all instruments, assist in all procedures requiring specimen smears (Bone Marrows, Ultrasound guided FNA, Bronchoscopies, Endoscopies), utilize appropriate fixation and staining techniques, cover slip, label slides, answer phone calls and stock supplies.
Perform frozen sections for rapid diagnosis of tissue and gross simple specimens if qualified per CAP requirements (minimum requirement 60 semester hours including 24 hours of science).
Assist in clerical needs of the pathology department.
Minimum Education Requirements
Associate degree, medical assistant program or some college credits preferred
Minimum Experience
Minimum of 1 year hospital or clinic experience required.
Experience in Pathology as a technical assistant preferred.
