The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Mental Health Counselor/AMH on the Central Unit at Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta, located in Decatur, GA.

Salary: $50,072.00

Job Grade: H

Job Description:

Master’s Degree in clinical/counseling psychology or related field

The position involves working with multi-disciplinary treatment teams in an acute inpatient setting with adults, often from underserved communities with severe mental illness, histories of trauma, impulse control problems, and interpersonal issues. The mental health counselor works with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. May help individuals deal with suicidal thinking; coping with persistent mental illness; stress and anger management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

· Develop and implement behavioral interventions under supervision of a psychologist,

· Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and record reviews to inform treatment.

· Review critical incidents and conducts a behavioral analysis (environmental factors, triggers, precursor behaviors, and reinforcing elements)

· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge

· Counsel clients in individual and group sessions to help them work toward recovery through coping and stress management skills.

· Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan

· Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports

· Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client's treatment.

1. Ability to develop and implement effective behavioral interventions

2. Ability to conduct classes and/or group interventions in the recovery model

3. Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment goals and interventions

4. Ability to effectively communicate clinical information in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Behavioral Hlth Counselor 1 (HCP100) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require certification or licensure.
