Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of semiskilled and skilled building trades work in the repair, maintenance or construction of state buildings and related structures. Installs and maintains security, climate control and other facilities systems.
Job Specific Duties: Under general supervision, performs repairs and preventive maintenance of physical structures, plumbing hardware or electrical devices at an assigned facility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or GED AND Two years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment
OR
· One year of experience at the lower level General Trades Tech 1 (FET030) or position equivalent.
Note: Some positions may require area specific certifications/licenses.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Demonstrated ability in the use of such tools and equipment as cutting torches, pipe wrenches, power saws, circuit testers, voltage meters threaders, welding torches, putty knives, electric sanders, paint spray guns, force pumps, flaring tools, levels, and lathes.
· Ability to operate hand and power tools, materials and equipment.
· Demonstrated skills in the operation of applicable tools and equipment.
· Ability to independently identify building repair and maintenance requirements.
· Ability to perform difficult repair and maintenance tasks without supervision.
· Committed to providing quality customer service.
· Demonstrated skills in reading, writing, and basic mathematics.
· Demonstrated ability to understand and apply written and oral instructions.
· Ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, or walk for long periods of time; exert oneself physically over time.
· Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
· Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
· Possesses accurate eye-hand coordination.
AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possession of or ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.
· Ability to perform preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
· Ability to complete required forms and reports to include data entry.
· Ability to respond to emergencies 24 hours day.
· Ability to crawl on hands and knees and use hand tools in tight spaces.
· Ability to lift 80 - 100 lbs.
· Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and Outlook.

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
