Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Full-Time Instructor (GED-HSE) position in the Adult Education department of the Academic & Student Affairs division. This position is located on Atlanta Technical College’s main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta.

Under general supervision of the Dean of Adult Education, the Full-Time GED-HSE Instructor provides instruction to students in Adult Education program and courses. This position requires utilizing techniques that facilitate adult learning styles and demonstrates varying techniques.

Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping required.
  • Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills.
  • Follows approved course syllabus.
  • Completes all reports, records and invoices in a timely manner and maintains an accurate inventory of all assigned properties.
  • Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student.
  • Maintains classrooms and labs in accordance with institutional safety guidelines.
  • Utilize pre-test scores (DRC) to develop targeted instruction for students.
  • Devise SLPs for all students based on pre-test scores and prepare students for post-testing.
  • Utilize and assign online resources accordingly to support skill proficiency and test preparation (Aztec, Essential Ed suite, etc.}.

· Teach Adult Education classes that consist of reading, math, science, social studies, and/or language skills based on the individualized learning needs of students.

  • Deliver effective Adult Education instruction using standard based lessons.
  • Plan, develop and implement lessons that require the use of higher order thinking skills.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate attendance and assessment records and ensure timely submission (daily) of data for NRS input.
  • Evaluate students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives and document in GALIS.

· Communicate with appropriate staff/faculty for students' testing needs in a timely manner.

· Review post-test scores, practice test scores and GED/HiSET test scores.

· Coordinate and provide appropriate student referrals for IETs, wrap around service, HSE credential scholarships and testing and transition services.

· Collaborate with the leadership team (Data Manager, Instructional and Transition Coordinators) for extenuating circumstances.

  • Monitor student data weekly (GALIS).
  • Monitor SLPs and asynchronous work.
  • Promote the adult education program to public and private organizations through the Service Delivery Area of the college
  • Participate in EAGLE competition
  • Plan, organize and participate in staff development and team conferences
  • Provide effective classroom management that enhances student learning.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, customer service and organizational commitment
  • Assist with recruitment and retention activities
  • Support the mission and vision of the college, program and TCSG; and
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Must possess and demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent oral and written communication skills, well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.

· Ability to multi-task and perform administrative duties for class management.

· Ability to teach all four subjects (Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies).

· Possess computer skills and knowledge of software and internet use.

· Ability to develop student learning plans and instructional lesson plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.

· One (1) years of teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Adult Education from a regionally accredited institution.

· Two (2) or more years of teaching experience.

· Experience in Adult Education.

· Experience teaching all four subjects (Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies).

· Possess computer skills and knowledge of software and internet use.

· Experience developing student learning plans and instructional lesson plans.
