The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with severe persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Our workforce of 4,600 is distributed within four divisions: Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Hospital Services, Strategy, Technology, & Performance Management, and a group of enterprise-wide offices.

DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state of Georgia, offering various services based on the populations they serve and the capacity of community providers. These hospitals provide a spectrum of care from 23-hour observation through residential services.

East Central Regional Hospital (ECRH) is currently seeking a full-time Board-Certified Physician for their Augusta Campus.

Job Description:

· Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.

· Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness, and accident prevention.

· Examines patients and takes their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures.

· Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients’ physical and mental health.

· Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

· Provides emergency medical care.

· Supervision:

o Supervises two medical nurse practitioners.

o Supervises medical students on rotation and occasionally resident.

· Care Team:

o Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers

o Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.

· Other:

o Participation in various committees and involvement in performance improvement projects other responsibilities as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) and licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law and two years of experience; candidates should be board certified in Family Medicine or a related area.
