POSITION: PART-TIME LIBRARIAN – Barrow Campus
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES
HOURLY RATE: $28 - $30 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience; 19.5 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, performs administrative functions for the Barrow campus library, including but not limited to, ensuring the facility is properly maintained, and reporting usage statistics to the Library Director. Teaches library orientation and research skills class for all English classes and any additional classes upon request. Performs a variety of circulation functions for the Barrow and Jackson campus libraries.
Duties:
- Assists patrons with the utilization of the library in a courteous and professional manner, i.e. assisting with computer log in questions;
- Provides assistance to students who have questions regarding library-based research projects, i.e. helping to narrow research topics, using GALILEO effectively, helping to format and edit their projects, etc.;
- Provides assistance to faculty and staff, i.e. providing library instruction;
- Checks materials in and out of library;
- Assists library patrons in accessing computers and available software applications at the Barrow campus library;
- Other work-related duties as determined by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited university.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of library materials, methods, and organization;
- Knowledge of the methods of classifying, cataloging, and shelf-listing books;
- Knowledge of research methods;
- Effective skill in operating a computer and job-related software programs;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Effective decision-making and problem solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & technical competencies):
- Prior instruction experience;
- Knowledge of systems and software, i.e. Alma, Library Guides, and GALILEO.
