Description: The Financial Aid Technician is responsible for performing administrative, clerical, and customer service

duties in support of the student financial aid process.

Major Duties:

  • Greets visitors and answers telephone, disseminates general financial information to students and the public.
  • Reviews financial aid source documents. Identifies inaccuracies, such as math errors, missing or inaccurate information, signatures or documentation. Assigns standard pre-established codes and/or other identifying information.
  • Enters routine financial aid transactions into appropriate systems i.e. BANNER. Verifies and corrects information entered.
  • Maintains financial aid related files and records.
  • Performs routine general clerical duties such as ordering supplies, typing, answering telephones and/or related duties.
  • Performs accounting-related clerical duties that require familiarity with basic financial aid functions.
  • Provides information regarding the financial aid resources available to students and parents.
  • Instructs students in correct procedures for completing forms and applications, special requirements

and restrictions and supporting documentation.

  • Analyzes and determines status of applications and forms, referring complex problems to the Financial Aid Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Oral, written and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, Access), Outlook and job related software programs
  • Knowledge of student financial aid processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of college, state and federal student financial aid programs, regulations and guidelines
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills

Driver’s License Requirement: Valid GA Driver License

Physical Demands:

  • The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight.
  • Work is typically performed with the employee sitting at a desk in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Full range of hand and finger motion is utilized for data entry purposes.

Travel Requirements: Some travel to peer groups or other training/conferences and to the other campuses is required.

Training Requirements:

  • Employee understands and agrees to complete all required trainings, to include those mandated by the State of Georgia Governor, by stated deadlines, as a condition of employment.
