This position is assigned to the following county:

· Tifton

Applicant must reside in this county or surrounding area or be willing to relocate.

Position Overview:

1. The Georgia State Seed Laboratory is located in Tifton, Georgia, and is a part of the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Laboratory Division.

2. The State Seed Laboratory is responsible for the testing of seed samples for the State of Georgia, as well as other states and external customers.

Job Summary:

Under direct supervision, job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Prepares media and/or reagents for use in performing routine analysis of samples
    • Performs routine laboratory tests and procedures following proper protocols
    • Documents and records all testing methods for quality assurance purposes
    • Participates in lab safety; may perform analysis on potentially hazardous samples
    • Monitors, adjusts, records, and maintains correct settings of laboratory equipment
    • Identifies and accurately classifies seed components as pure seed, inert matter, other crop, weeds, and noxious weeds for each germination sample
    • Performs germination analysis under direct supervision

Other duties as assigned

· This is temporary or hourly paid work performing general support services.

· Positions in this job are scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

· Further education with a college degree (preferably in an agricultural field)

· Two or more years of experience working in a laboratory or agricultural research facility

· Knowledge of requirements for sample sorting, preparation, and applications
