Under general supervision, prepares medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications. Adds measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions to prepare intravenous (IV) packs under pharmacist supervision. Answers telephone, responding to questions or requests. Assists customers by answering simple questions, locating items or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information. Computes charges for medication and equipment dispensed to hospital clients. Enters medical and demographic data into a computer and assists in production and preparation of reports (including billing information). Fills bottles with prescribed medications and types and affixes labels. Mixes pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions. Prices and files prescriptions that have been filled. Receives written prescription or refills requests and verifies that information is complete and accurate. Supplies and monitors robotic machines that dispense medicine into containers, and labels the containers. Transfers medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes, using aseptic techniques

Employment Requirements

FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.

High School diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience working in a pharmacy; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Pharmacy Tech 1 (HCS030) or position equivalent.
