POSITION: ENGLISH INSTRUCTOR
REPORTS TO: Dean of General Education
SALARY: Mid $60’s, depending on education, experience, and qualifications
EFFECTIVE: July 1, 2025
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, develops program and course outlines, goals and objectives; Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited English courses; Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests; Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the classroom; Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students; Assists with student recruitment and retention as appropriate. Manages administrative responsibilities related to scheduling, developing syllabi and teaching courses. Other duties as assigned by Dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in English or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in English and appropriate semester hours in specific course content from a regionally accredited college or university. Must work well in the classroom and in supervising diverse students in a variety of settings.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Ability to work flexible hours – including day and evening hours
· Ability to teach at any College campus where English classes are taught
· Ability to participate in appropriate staff development and campus activities
· Ability to supervise students in the classroom
· Ability to develop and evaluate lesson plans, and select appropriate textbooks
· Ability to direct and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies
· Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for accreditation agencies, and the College.
· Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff
· Skill in the operation of work-related computers
· Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level
· Ability to maintain accurate and organized records, and prepare lesson materials
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
· Effective decision making and problem-solving skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum and competencies):
Experience teaching in a postsecondary environment; Experience teaching via online instruction; Bilingual is a plus.
