Job Summary:

The Professional School Counselor provides school counseling services to one or more DJJ School System locations as assigned by the Regional Principal.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Assists in the creation of all reports, records, and other paperwork as assigned by the District, the Agency, the Georgia Department of Education, and the Federal Government, and other paperwork that may be appropriate to the district’s administration.

Keeps the supervisor informed and works cooperatively with all other staff in school, District, and Agency-related matters.

Maintains a positive, collaborative, and mutually supportive working relationship with community agencies, parents, students, and Agency, District, and school staff.

Reviews student records upon arrival at the facility

Completes a Graduation Status Report for high school students when records arrive. Ensures that all high school students present for 30 days or more in a RYDC must have a Graduation Status Report. Provides advisement.

Reviews all schedules for students that have been entered into Infinite Campus by the Vocational Instructor/Practical Instructor/Education Clerk

Completes individual Graduation Plan for all 8th grade students

Coordinates End of Course test administration

Reviews students who are in the YDC for more than a semester to determine progress and appropriate academic placement

Prepares Career and College advisement to long-term students

Coordinates Placement/Retention Committee meetings and determinations

Available for input into RTI/504 and IEP meetings

Coordinates Career/College Day exploration and activities for the YDC during Spring Semester

Assists with the transition process back into public school

Conducts classroom guidance and groups

Assists with coordination of special activities and programs such as Red Ribbon Week

Coordinates Odysseyware enrollment

Continues to grow professionally through research, study, and collaboration with colleagues.

Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in School Counseling

Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Education

Must be able to perceive the needs of the total school program

Strong decision-making ability

Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others

Knowledge of school, school district, and agency policies and procedures

Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, and provide leadership which results in the best possible school environment

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Must meet established deadlines

Must hold a Georgia School Counseling Certification (SRS) from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful classroom teaching experience

Education Specialist degree

Understanding of detention operations
