Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education - School Nutrition is recruiting for an Area Consultant. The Area Consultant position oversees and develops statewide activities for the school nutrition program including district level support, program development, and public relations. The Specialist/Area Consultant serves as a liaison with internal and external partners and represents the GaDOE (Georgia Department of Education) School Nutrition Division on national and state level committees.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides technical assistance to school systems which are deficient and/or non-compliant in federal accountability standards for the National School Lunch, Breakfast, After School Snack and Seamless Summer programs
- Responsible for planning and overseeing the Administrative Review Process
- Responsible for assigned Administrative Reviews (AR) either as the Lead AC (Area Consultant) or assisting AC and completes the review within the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) required time limits, communicating with School Food Authorities the results and corrective actions necessary, and managing fiscal action as required
- Interprets state and federal laws, regulations, instructions and policies for local, state, and federal agencies and allied organizations
- Successfully interacts with all appropriate levels of federal, state, and local government in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation, and contributes to excellent performance of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program
- Provides support and resources as pertaining to the School Nutrition Program both internally and externally
- Collaborates on the completion and submission of required USDA reports
- Assists directly or indirectly local systems and boards in the implementation of overall goals of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program by interpreting applicable state and federal laws, regulations and policies, financial and participation reports for state staff, public and private school personnel
- Analyzes technical data to help monitor the programs
- Completes special projects and other duties as assigned
- Displays a high level of effort and commitment to the vision/mission of the Georgia Department of Education and State School Superintendent in all interactions and job performance
- State-wide travel is required
Preference
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Education or Education Administration or a related field with strong emphasis on school nutrition programs AND Five years of related school nutrition experience
- Registered/Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission School Nutrition Directors certification in P-12 school nutrition
- Experience managing federal grants and state/local programs and contracts
