This is hourly paid work assisting teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching youth in the classroom setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts. This position is part-time and requires less than 30 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.

NOTE: This is a 29 hour per week position.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

· Provides support to the teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment

· Assists teachers in planning and preparation for daily activities, aids instructional efforts of the teacher

· Assists the teacher in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas

· Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in the classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts

· Presents subject matter to students, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role playing

· Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts

· Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, coping and filing instructional materials

· Operates and cares for instructional equipment and materials

· Observes and controls behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures

· Participates in professional growth activities

· Follows the communicated policies and procedures of the school district

· Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:

· Experience working with at-risk youth in an educational environment

· Associate’s degree

· Experience as a teacher’s aide and/or office clerk

· Paraprofessional Certification with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC) or Two-Year Degree.
