Middle Judicial Circuit- Assistant Public Defender I
The Middle Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking multiple qualified candidates to fill the position of Assistant Public Defender I serving Toombs, Candler, Emanuel, Washington, and Jefferson Counties. The Assistant Public Defender I will provide dedicated legal representation to indigent clients throughout all phases of criminal proceedings, including arraignment, pretrial hearings, trial preparation, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing. This is an entry-level position ideal for attorneys committed to public defense and gaining substantial courtroom experience. Selected applicants must be active members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia and demonstrate a strong commitment to indigent criminal defense.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender I will be responsible for providing competent and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position performs beginning-level professional legal work and may assist in cases of routine complexity, as well as represent clients in serious, legally complex, high-profile, and/or significant cases assigned to the office. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, conducting legal research and trial preparation, negotiating plea agreements, and advocating for clients in court proceedings. Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor from an accredited college or university and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia. Performs other related duties as required.
