Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education - Finance and Business Operations - Financial Review Unit is recruiting for an experienced Accountant IV. Under limited supervision this position serves as the Assistant Director of the Financial Reviw and Grants Accounting Divisions. Primary responsibilities including managing the grants accounting process and overseeing financial and budgetary support for Georgia's local units of administration. Duties include, but are not limited to,

  • Assist the Director of Financial Review and Grants Accounting with division management and planning

  • Manage, develop and maintain a comprehensive financial reporting program which integrates generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, statutory accounting requirements, federal reporting requirements, and agency fiscal policies and procedures

  • Ensure reconciliations between the grants accounting system and the statewide accounting system are prepared timely

  • Provide technical assistance to local districts regarding data to collect, maintain, and report to the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE)

  • Complete and ensure the completion of all state and federal reporting requirements

  • Assist with implementing the new statewide accounting software as well as an updated grants accounting system

  • Assist with training external and internal users on the updated grants accounting system

  • Effectively communicate with GaDOE administrators and local units of administration

  • Participate as a member of internal and external committees and task forces to assess policies, procedures, and programs

  • Maintain knowledge of federal regulation, guidelines, and reporting requirements, as well as current trends and developments in the field and incorporate pertinent new knowledge

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with local, state, and federal agencies and other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualification

Preference will be given to applicants who meets the minimum qualifications and one or more of the below preferred:

  • Local units of administration accounting or auditing experience

  • State level accounting or auditing experience

  • Strong knowledge of local school system financial software applications

  • Strong knowledge of and effective experience with ensuring compliance with federal program guidelines and related fiscal reporting requirements

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state education legislation and funding

  • Financial Statement preparation experience

  • Working knowledge of governmental accounting standards

  • Certified public accountant designation

Bachelor's degree in accounting and five (5) years of professional accounting job-related experience, which includes three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Sr Mgr, Accounting (FIM012) or equivalent position.
