The responsibilities of the Plant Chemical Technician will include performing technical, analytical, and operational services essential to the functioning of a Combined Cycle power plant and Combustion Turbine facility, including:
Working safely and being accountable for your safety and the safety of your coworkers
Operation and maintenance of various types of water treatment plant equipment, pump and analyzer operation, as well as ensuring water quality through appropriate testing to ensure high quality make-up
Operation and maintenance of Low Volume Wastewater Pond and associated equipment
Provide chemical protection of the steam generating equipment as per GEN 6500 to minimize outages, protect equipment, and prevent loss of efficiency due to corrosion and deposits in the steam/water cycle components.
Work to ensure effective water management
Ensure effective condenser and cooling tower operation through effective chlorination process and routine monitoring
Ensure monitoring and treatment of plant closed loop cooling systems
Conduct all required sampling as per Gen 6500 and regulatory requirements
Calibrate and maintain laboratory and on-line equipment and benchtop instrumentation, performing QA/QC as needed and required
Support quality unit start-ups and shutdowns when required
Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory supplies and inventory
Assist regulatory compliance personnel to help ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety and health regulations; assist with environmental reporting and sampling, as needed
Have good working knowledge of the plant clearance/LOTO procedure
Understand and adhere to plant confined space procedure
Support plant air-in-leakage efforts
Inventory lab equipment, reagents, and supplies and order as needed
Assist with data gathering for monthly chemistry reporting
Perform with unit inspections on vessels, drums, condensers, and other equipment
Assist with unloading of hazardous chemicals and wear all appropriate PPE
Ensure all laboratory areas meet housekeeping standards outlined by the plant
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Pre-Employment Requirements :
Possess a valid driver's license
Must qualify on the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) pre-employment test
Pass a drug test, physical and background investigation
Education and Experience Requirements :
BS or BA degree in chemistry, or physical science field (minimum of 25 quarter hours or 12 semester hours of chemistry)
Experience and competency in the use, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment
Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques is required
Previous experience in large water treatment facility is preferred. This would include operating and maintaining clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis and de-ionization systems
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Broad knowledge of analytical, inorganic, oil, environmental and water chemistries required
Knowledge of chemical treatment methods and operation of water treatment plant is preferred. Collect samples and analyze for specific parameters.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and identify plant water process problems is preferred.
Perform QA/QC on instrumentation; maintain and calibrate bench top instrumentation.
Proficiency in various Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook
Ability to multitask and handle multiple duties at one time
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to understand mechanical and electrical theories and fundamentals
Ability to read and interpret information presented in graphic form (examples are blueprints, diagrams, drawings, graphs and plots)
Understand handling requirement of hazardous materials (HAZMAT)

Ability to work shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays is required
Ability to work in non-temperature-controlled environments (extreme heat & cold)
Ability to work in an environment that could include chemical fumes, hazardous and/or toxic chemicals
Availability for call-out and overtime is required; willingness and ability to work long hours, as needed

You will be asked to work across departmental lines when needed for the success of the Plant
Ability to work with limited supervision in a team environment
Ability to take initiative required to manage projects and address issues
Ability to work in extreme noise and vibration
Ability to work around moving equipment or objects
Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs
Ability to climb ladders, bending, reaching, and working at different elevations
