WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE & TRAVEL
This position will be located at GPC Headquarters in Atlanta, GA.
Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute.
Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.
JOB SUMMARY
The Distributed Generation (“DG”) Engineer manages the interconnection of statewide Distributed Commercial & Industrial (DCI) projects to the GPC distribution system. The position is responsible for the engineering, design, construction, scheduling, and testing of GPC equipment used to interconnect customer owned facilities.
This position works with large and diverse teams across various departments within Southern Company and externally to successfully implement DG projects from initial customer or installer contact through interconnection and billing to achieve energization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a technical point of contact for customers and installers who export onto the distribution system, including all interconnection activities throughout the application, engineering, and construction process
Lead project design for unique customer systems to allow for customers to reduce energy and carbon footprint
Develop policy and procedures to address demand driven by complex customer owned systems
Identify and implement process improvements utilizing customer and installer feedback
Foster and maintain strong working relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred OR 2-year accredited Technical Degree OR EUT Certificate OR Power Delivery related experience with a utility company
Strong technical engineering experience and knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated experience utilizing JETS, DistView, Designer/GIS, CSS, Socket, ARMS, TCMS Web, NJUNS, EDEN, and DisIntel highly preferred
Knowledge of the Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, and Metering Blue Book
Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and prioritize work effectively with minimal supervision
Experience managing multiple projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and effectively interacting with external and internal stakeholders
