Job Summary : GIS Team Lead – Distribution Area Support
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential to Georgia Power's strategic initiatives, technological advancements, and daily operations. As the primary data source and asset repository, GIS covers land, distribution, and lighting facilities, serving as the foundation for both current and future application development. The position is primarily based in Valdosta, with occasional travel required to Georgia Power Distribution offices in Albany, Bainbridge, Tifton, and Waycross. The GIS Team Lead will be responsible for directing the work and managing the performance of two GIS Technicians within the Geographic Solutions & Services (GSS) organization and will act as the primary supervisory contact for other organizations within the designated area. Additionally, the role involves training and enhancing the skills of employees within and outside of GSS, as appropriate, in the use of DistGIS, ArcPro, Express Sketch, ArcFM Mobile, DistView, and other GSS applications. It also includes overseeing the input, processing, and maintenance of Distribution data, ensuring compliance with Geographic Solutions & Services procedures and Southern Company's GIS Data strategy. Occasional after-hours participation in storm restoration is required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, GIS, Geography, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Geomatics/Mathematics preferred
Master’s degree is a plus
Experience
Previous GIS work experience such as GIS Specialist or Analyst required
Experience with Utility GIS system is strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of electrical utility distribution systems preferred.
Knowledge of ESRI products preferred
Clear understanding of the relationships between field processes and tools to data management and data integrity required
Experience with Outage Managements Systems (OMS/ADMS) such as Oracle NMS, GE ADMS, etc. is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Microsoft 365, and ESRI products

Job Responsibilities
Responsible for data quality improvements in the Distribution area
Provide support to Distribution Area personnel in the use of DistGIS, JETS, Express Sketch, Distview, and other mobile applications
Provide leadership and work direction to GIS Technicians. This includes, but is not limited to, performance management, coaching, goal settings, training, and employee development.
Collaborator with GSS leadership on goals, processes, and procedures to ensure organizational efficiencies and effective
Provide application support to Distribution area personnel, providing one-on-one training and group training when necessary.
Ensure all Distribution job postings are current, completed timely, and of the highest quality including performing random QA/Q checks.
Coordinate priority data postings thru appropriate processes.
Coordinate and ensure customer link issues are resolved accurately
Ensure proper administration of the Corporate Data Security Policy
Responsible for coordinating and granting access rights with GIS administrator.

Support SERP (Storm Restoration) activities.
