Job Description

The Application Developer position is part of the Corporate Services Systems Application Portfolio group, within the SCS Technology Organization (TO) as a part of the team responsible for providing support to a suite of solutions for Land / Corporate Real Estate across Operating Companies. The position will be responsible for ensuring delivery of timely, quality, reliable, secure, and compliant solutions, via close collaboration and partnership with supported Business Partners, third-party vendors, and other TO support resources. The position blends hands‑on application development with strong production support, integration, and third-party vendor coordination responsibilities in a highly visible business-operations environment.

Position responsibilities include: Providing functional and technical subject matter expertise for Business Partner application solutions (custom development, vendor packages, SaaS); Performing design, development, integration, configuration, testing, and implementation of Business Partner application solutions (inclusive of vendor solutions); Performing problem/root cause analysis and resolution (production support) for Business Partner application solutions; Providing consultation for application life cycle management; Staying abreast of emerging business technology trends and needs.

The Application Developer must have strong technical, consultative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver innovative solutions to business problems in a fast-paced environment. The position will require excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, planning, and organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with Business Partners, peers, management, other TO resource groups, and vendors.

  • Provide functional and technical subject matter expertise for the Land / Corporate Real Estate ecosystem of applications and solutions, serving as a trusted partner to business stakeholders.

  • Design, develop, enhance, integrate, and support custom‑built, vendor‑provided, and SaaS-based application solutions aligned with Southern Company policies, procedures, standards, and methodologies.

  • Perform root cause analysis and deliver timely, effective production support, including some on‑call and after‑hours support as needed.

  • Coordinate with vendors and other TO resources on incidents, upgrades, security remediations, and enhancement efforts.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, data, and compliance teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for security, privacy, regulatory compliance, and performance.

  • Provide accurate estimates, status updates, and technical documentation in support of project planning and operational reviews.

  • Maintain application and operational documentation, including runbooks, monitoring procedures, and support playbooks.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve application stability, automation, supportability, and business efficiency.

  • Apply strong oral and written communication skills; apply strong customer service and negotiating skills; exhibit initiative; follow through with Business Partner commitments; and apply sound performance techniques.

  • Other duties or special projects, as assigned by leadership.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or another related field, is required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in full‑stack application development and production support with .NET framework using C# and JavaScript.

  • Experience in web development with jQuery, Angular, or other JavaScript frameworks, and proficiencies in HTML and CSS.

  • Hands-on development experience with Blazor and Angular, building responsive, user-focused applications and collaborating with backend services using .NET and REST-based integrations.

  • Experience with Oracle/SQL Server database query and configuration.

  • Knowledge of the ESRI suite of GIS web and mobile applications is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with GIS application development using ESRI tools, such as Experience Builder/Web AppBuilder is strongly preferred.

  • Deep statistical knowledge to understand associated procedures and calculations used in land surveying applications is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) for:

    • Code scaffolding and boilerplate generation

    • Refactoring and code optimization

    • Unit test generation

    • Documentation and code explanation

  • Familiarity with integrating AI‑generated code into:

    • .NET and JavaScript/TypeScript applications

    • Enterprise platforms using standard CI/CD and pull‑request workflows

  • Demonstrated judgment in evaluating AI recommendations and determining when custom implementation is required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud‑based application architectures is a plus.

  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) is a plus.

  • Experience using source control and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub.

  • Familiarity with agile and waterfall development methodologies in regulated or enterprise environments.

  • Proven ability to build productive relationships and collaborate effectively across business, vendor and technology teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Occasional night and/or weekend work may be required for production support, deployments, and/or incident resolution.
