Tax Analyst
The Tax Analyst position is responsible for supporting the Indirect Tax technology tools that are currently used by the Indirect Tax team and the tools that will be added in the future. The position will be the lead for system wide technology implementations that impact sales & use tax. The Tax Analyst will be the primary contact for technology issues, questions, resolutions, problems, solutions, etc. and will work closely with the Tax Accounting Supervisors and the Tax Manager to ensure technology tools are working accurately and efficiently. The Tax Analyst position will serve as a liaison between the Tax, Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Information Technology departments improving the understanding of the Indirect Tax department’s information technology needs. The position will lead technical guidance, manage tax technology end-user training and documentation, and development of tax staff on technology tools. The Tax Analyst will timely and accurately prepare, file, and pay monthly, quarterly, and annual federal, state and local and international transaction tax returns and monthly and quarterly general ledger account reconciliations. Other duties include tax research of applicable federal, state, local or international tax rules and regulations, data analysis, audit support, and business unit support.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
4+ years transaction tax experience in a large accounting firm or large public company environment
Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Experience with tax technology software and ERP systems
Experience working on tax data and filing indirect tax compliance
Proficiency with tax research software
Demonstrated success working in a team-based environment
Preferred:
- Experience working in the public utility or energy industries
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilize and supports Vertex O Series, Vertex Returns and Vertex Enterprise/Tax Performance Engine to ensure that systems are working properly and performs analysis of Vertex sales and use tax system data to ensure accuracy.
Supports Avalara tax system for PowerSecure to ensure that the system is working properly and performs analysis of Avalara sales and use tax system data to ensure accuracy
Act as the Implementation Lead for all sales & use tax related systems and companywide systems that impact sales & use tax. Participate in the design and testing phases to ensure optimal performance for the applicable sales and use tax function.
Supports integrations from Maximo, Oracle Cloud, various billing systems, and file transfer sites to tax software to ensure any upstream changes to systems or tax drivers are planned for.
Supports requirements gathering, functional design, development, configuration, testing, and documentation of new or upgraded sales tax support systems including any internal process improvement projects.
Supports team with troubleshooting and resolution of issues and questions for sales tax technology.
Supports Vertex Enterprise configuration and other incoming data sources required for monthly compliance needs.
Serves as a liaison with IT tax technology support, IT groups, business process anchored network (BPAN), and business groups to resolve problems, answer questions, automate processes, and support system updates
Lead team efforts to optimize and utilize tax technology tools such as setting up new companies in Vertex tools, setup of new returns in Vertex tools, adding new locations in Vertex tools, adding new taxability drivers in Vertex tools, troubleshooting and resolving taxability issues in Vertex tools
Provide support, maintenance, and implementation of Alteryx workflows.
Perform system administrator duties including monthly updates, managing user system security for tax dedicated systems, coordinating the testing and installation of system upgrades and patching
Contributes to the implementation of sales and use tax technology strategies, emphasizing process automation and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance tax calculation and reporting efficiency.
Perform tax research of applicable federal, state, local or international tax rules and regulations, data analysis, audit support, and business unit support.
