Yard Labourer

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Truck Yard Operations:

• Safely maneuver and relocate trailers within the yard, including backing trailers into tight dock spaces. Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure trailer readiness and mechanical integrity.

Shipping & Receiving:

• Verify incoming and outgoing loads for accuracy, ensuring they match shipping documents and are properly staged or packed according to specifications. Load and unload materials using forklifts, hand trucks, and other equipment.

Material Flow & Coordination:

• Support internal departments by coordinating the timely flow of materials and assisting with production expediting. Help with load planning to meet delivery timelines and cost goals.

Collaboration & Communication:

• Work closely with management, production, customer service, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service. Participate in safety meetings and help enforce safety protocols.

General Support & Continuous Improvement:

• Keep work areas clean and organized. Support training, safety initiatives, and special projects aimed at improving efficiency and departmental performance.
• May perform and carry out other duties as required by Management to support team objectives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong customer service and teamwork abilities
• Physically fit; must be able to enter and exit trucks multiple times daily
• Comfortable working in various environments, including adverse weather conditions
• Proficient in backing and maneuvering trailers
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
• Flexible availability, including the ability to work various shifts and weekends as needed
• Willingness to undergo a baseline audiometric (hearing) test
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical And Environmental Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs overhead when loading products onto trailers
• Ability to frequently get on and off company equipment (e.g., forklifts) to load/unload trailers and transport materials across the production site
• Capable of walking, standing, crouching, and climbing for extended periods to complete job tasks
• Manual dexterity and use of hands and fingers required for various operational duties

Work Environment Conditions:

• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions may occur during the course of work
• The work environment may be loud; appropriate hearing protection is required
• Temperatures in the work area may exceed 90°F, especially during warmer months

Sensory and Safety Requirements:

• Must have corrected 20/20 vision and normal hearing range
• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hard hats, earplugs, gloves, and other job-specific gear
