Purchasing & Inventory Control Technician

Position Summary
Newnan Utilities is currently seeking a full-time Purchasing & Inventory Control Technician to join our Team! The Purchasing & Inventory Control Technician is responsible for assisting with the efficient day-to-day operations of the warehouse, maintaining accurate inventory, providing customer service to employees and vendors, and distributing inventory required for jobs, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Safely load/unload shipments, ensuring weight distribution and load integrity, using the forklift
- Assess incoming shipments for accuracy and quality
- Unpack shipments and stock shelves appropriately
- Distribute inventory items and assist with locating inventory as needed
- Maintain accurate inventory records and reports in Microsoft Dynamics GP
- Maintain transformer tracking records
- Purchase inventory and non-inventory items as needed
- Track and follow up with inventory orders on a regular basis and communicate discrepancies to Purchasing and Inventory Control Supervisor
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure supplies are in stock for any upcoming jobs while maintaining adequate inventory for day-to-day operations
- Perform proper inventory maintenance activities such as conducting inventory counts on a routine basis
- Conduct annual inventory and reconciliation process of all supplies and materials
- Maintain the Material Safety Data Sheets and update as needed
- Properly inspect and safely operate a forklift and backhoe
- Assist with various administrative, receiving, and shipping tasks
- Perform other related duties as assigned

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maintenance instructions and manuals
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures including the proper use of personal protective equipment such as masks, goggles, gloves, and other safety equipment
- Ability to safely operate various tools and equipment such as but not limited to a forklift, cordless power tools, backhoe, and landscaping tools
Qualifications
Experience
- 0-4 years’ experience in the utility industry (sewer, water, electric)
- 1-3 years’ warehouse experience
- 2-4 years’ customer service experience
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
License | Certifications
- Valid State Driver’s License, including an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or attain within 1 year from date of hire
- Forklift Certification or attain within 6 months from date of hire
Hardware | Software | Technical | Other Skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Microsoft Dynamics GP
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to safely operate a backhoe, forklift, and other heavy equipment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Working Conditions
Environment
- Must work inside and outside in all weather and environmental conditions
- Exposed to loud noise, dust, dirt, mud, insects, and animals
- Warehouse and office setting
- Occasional work in confined spaces and/or heights
- Ability to work in a hazardous environment using extreme caution at all times
Schedule
- May require occasional weekend and evening work
Physical Requirement
- Ability to perform moderate physical work
- Ability to perform activities such as:
- Frequent bending/kneeling
- Frequent standing/walking

- Occasional heavy lifting
