Living Donor Transplant Coordinator
Description:
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Clinical management of general hepatology patients, transplant candidates and living donors from the time of referral through transplantation and beyond.
The Living Donor Transplant Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the living donation process. This role involves assessing donor suitability, guiding donors through the evaluation process, coordinating medical testing and providing emotional support, before, during and after donation. The living donor coordinator will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including transplant surgeons, nephrologists, social workers and dieticians to ensure optimal care and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
Key responsibilities:
Educate donors about the donation process, risks, benefits and post donation care
Schedule and facilitate medical evaluations, including lab work, imaging and specialist consultation.
Collaborate with transplant teams to ensure timely donor evaluation and approval.
Organize and support living donor surgeries and ensure smooth transitions from preop to post op care.
Serve as a primary point of contact for the living donors throughout their donation journey.
Provide emotional support and resources for both the donors and their families.
Advocate for donor rights and ensure voluntary participation, free from coercion.
Ensure all regulatory requirements, including UNOS, CMS and hospital policies are met.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and projects related to living donation.
Partner with the National Kidney Registry to facilitate paired kidney exchange and kidney for life.
Qualities of the living donor coordinator:
Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
Understand the nature of the concierge care for the donor population
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and collaborate within the multidisciplinary team and be a team player.
This role plays a crucial role in facilitating life-saving transplants while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of living donors.
Qualifications:MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two years of nursing experience required.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Georgia.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of critical care or procurement experience preferred. CCTC, CCPC, or CCTN preferred.
