Cath Lab Tech - PRN
Description:
JOB PURPOSE:
Assists the physician in the performance of invasive cardiac procedures. Has thorough
knowledge of all Cath Lab Equipment and maintenance of it and administers direct/indirect
care to patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures. Able to provide direct and indirect
cardiovascular clinical care during established procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Identify steps in established procedures to provide technical assistance for selected
diagnostic and interventional invasive cardiology procedures, which include supply,
equipment operation, monitoring, imaging and use of medical devices
2. Must be proficient in 2 of the 3 roles with the expectation to become proficient in all
roles.
Scrub:
a. Operates with competency when assisting physician with all elective and
emergency diagnostic and/or interventional cardiac and/or peripheral
procedures.
b. Performs expertise in patient preparation, pre and post assessment, and
demonstrates familiarity with all procedural equipment.
c. Maintains department policies regarding sterile technique and the use of
personal protective equipment.
d. Assesses patient knowledge and understanding of procedures, providing ongoing
age-appropriate education.
e. Ensures continuum of care (example: providing complete report to floor).
Circulate:
a. Only Registered Nurses and/or RCIS will administer medications, including
moderate sedation, and maintain medication supplies under physician
supervision.
b. Conducts ongoing age-appropriate patient assessment while providing
appropriate treatment.
c. Performs patient preparation according to department policy, including
hemodynamic equipment set-up and IV status.
d. Provides all necessary procedural equipment.
e. Documents medications given during procedures.
Monitor:
a. Assesses hemodynamic information and displays capability in troubleshooting
monitoring equipment.
b. Performs accurate documentation of catheterization lab procedures.
c. Obtains patient identifiers and enters into hemodynamic monitor system and all
databases.
d. Provides complete procedural report to receiving units.
3. Injection of contrast media from the sterile field as directed and supervised by the
physician
4. Documentation of procedures and patient information according to hospital policy.
5. Assist to coordinate procedure schedule as assigned
6. Assist with inventory control as directed by the supervisor / manager
7. Ensures adherence to departmental policies regarding radiation safety and monitoring
and universal precautions.
8. Assists with maintenance of rooms and equipment via daily checklist to be turned into
clinical manager at end of month.
9. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
RCIS program graduate or a graduate of program in nursing, respiratory, paramedic, imaging or
exercise physiology.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1-year Healthcare Imaging, Exercise Physiology, Paramedic, Respiratory, or RN experience. No
experience required if a graduate of an RCIS program.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Based on healthcare experienced (see above) applicable license required. If a graduate of RCIS
program, no license is required, however RCIS must be obtained within 24 months of hire.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BCLS and ACLS Required
