Recreational Therapist - PRN, Days
*Schedule is: available some weekdays and weekends, full shift about 7 hours
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Performs safe, effective therapeutic patient care. Demonstrates expertise in patient assessment treatment planning, treatment implementation, & documentation. Knowledgeable in the organization & demonstration of Recreation Therapy programs that focus on self-awareness, self-expression, social, cultural, & recreation development. Performs as part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Completes assessment & treatment plan within 72 hours & documents completion or reason why not able to
complete assessment.
2. Orients patients to functions, facilities and schedule.
3. Implements therapeutic treatment group sessions for patients as scheduled by selecting appropriate projects and
activities to achieve goals; provides the necessary environment to meet patient needs; implements therapeutic
approaches when verbalizing with patients.
4. Assesses the need of each patient & formulates appropriate short & long term goals along with methods to achieve goals as needed.
5. Consults with other members of the department & team to determine the most appropriate recreation program
consistent with the needs & capabilities of each patient & to coordinate recreation/activity therapy with other treatment modalities.
6. Reassesses treatment plans, modifies, adapts & upgrades with the capabilities of the patient in order to achieve the highest level of functioning as needed.
7. Collaborates with other members of the treatment team & other AT personnel to discuss patient care treatment
modification & discharge planning. .
8. Responds to changes in work schedule as necessary. Continually uses time between groups and/or individual patients for departmental duties.
9. Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives & choose appropriate course of action.
10. Attends unit meetings as possible.
11. Conducts training programs as needed.
12. Participates in committees & special task forces as needed.
13. Maintains work area in neat, orderly & safe manner.
14. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
15. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
16. Regular, punctual and dependable attendance.
17. Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
18. Other duties as assigned.

Possess strong communication skills in both oral & written format.
Ability to be flexible in intervening with patients on a moments notice.

Ability to cope with patients experiencing behavioral conditions that can render them suicidal, homicidal or unable to care adequately for themselves.

Competent in completing assessment, treatment plan, discharge plan & all other documentation electronically.
Ability to implement new program activities; new Health Habits group, Recreation Therapy & low impact exercise programming activities; new TR groups for outpatient programs if required; new leisure skills activities.
Competent to provide close patient supervision when art supplies or tools are being used with patients
Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs.
Basic technology skills using computer, telephone, voice mail, copy machine, facsimile.
POPULATION SERVED:
Adults of all ages with mental health and/or chemical dependency needs.
COMPETENCIES:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in Recreation Therapy or related field required
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
None.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
CPI certification within the first 90 days of employment required
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Recreation Therapy or related field preferred
Recreation Therapy experience preferred, experience in related fields considered.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred, or Certification as Art Therapist.
