Financial Counselor

Description:

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
All activities associated with providing insurance and financial counseling to organ transplant potential candidates, candidates, donors, recipients and their families in order to provide a more thorough understanding of their financial responsibilities and to enhance client satisfaction. Coordinates with multiple facilities in the southeast region.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Associates Degree in Business, Finance or related field. In lieu of degree, 3-years experience in hospital admissions, hospital business office or health insurance will be accepted.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three (3) years experience in hospital admissions, hospital business office or health insurance

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
N/A

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree preferred. Skilled in computer spreadsheets. Ability to use initiative, be self-directed and use independent judgment. Ability to apply special billing and tracking of individual patient accounts; prioritization and coordination of all activities necessary to develop a financial plan for transplant patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Consults with patients, recipients, donors and potential candidates regarding insurance or billing concerns to help potential recipients qualify for a kidney transplant and to assist them with the ongoing account problems.
2. Ensures a thorough financial assessment of transplant candidates.
3. Attends organ transplant patient selection committee meetings as needed to provide financial status reports on candidates.
4. Works closely with transplant coordinators, patient care managers and other program staff.
5. Assists with global billing efforts.
6. Assists with reviewing and processing invoices for payment
7. Maintains appropriate spreadsheets and other reports as required.
8. Takes appropriate corrective action to notify Patient Financial Services, Admissions or others whenever patient account coding errors are discovered.
9. Coordinates between the Organ Transplant Program and multiple dialysis centers in the southeast region.
10. Ensures special patient billings are coded and tracked for payment.
11. Ensures that end stage renal disease patients meet all criteria to be eligible for UNOS placement.
12. May perform other duties as assigned.
