NRU Unit-Based Educator/Staff RN
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), primarily day shift with flexibility for education delivery across shifts. Minimum of one shift in staffing per pay period.
Summary
The NRU UBE serves as a bedside nurse, educator, mentor, and clinical resource for nursing staff on the Nurse Residency Unit. This individual supports ongoing education, competency development and professional growth of nursing staff, including preceptors and nurse residents. This role bridges clinical practice and staff development by integrating education into the patient care environment to improve outcomes, support nurse retention, and foster a culture of learning and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Educational Leadership
- Develops, implements, and evaluates unit-based orientation and continuing education programs for unit staff aligned with current evidence-based practice
- Collaborates with nursing leadership and the clinical education department to assess learning needs and coordinate educational activities
- Supports regulatory readiness through staff education on policies, procedures, and quality/safety initiatives
Preceptor & Nurse Resident Support
- Provides support, coaching, and ongoing development for unit preceptors
- Serves as a resource and facilitator for nurse residents during their onboarding and transition to practice
- Conducts biweekly meetings with nurse residents and preceptors to monitor progress, address concerns, and guide professional development
Med/Surg Program Facilitation
- Organizes and leads quarterly roundtables to provide a forum for med/surg nurse residents to share experiences, discuss challenges and foster peer support
- Coordinates and hosts meet & greet sessions for three cohorts of new med/surg residents each year
Clinical Practice
- Maintains clinical competency and serves as a role model for evidence-based practice
- Works a minimum of one staffing shift per pay period to support unit staffing levels and stay connected to unit needs
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborates with nurse managers, the Clinical Education department, and the Residency Coordinator to ensure cohesive staff development strategies
- Promotes a culture of open communication, continuous learning, and professional accountability
Qualifications:
Preferred:
- Previous experience in nursing education or staff development
- BSN
- Minimum of 3 years of recent med/surg nursing experience
- Strong clinical expertise
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of a nursing program
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
New Graduates of a nursing program eligible
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
BLS certification required.
