Job Summary
The Librarian is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive campus media center to support staff, faculty, and students at WGTC and also to support community patrons that may visit the open library facility. For each specific campus library, the Librarian is responsible for:
- Operation and efficient maintenance of library resources
- Provide efficient and effective library acquisitions within budgetary allotment
- Provide presentations and instruction on library services and resources
- Collecting and maintaining usage and service effectiveness data
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Library Services.

Operate and Efficiently Maintain Campus Library for usage by Faculty, Staff, Students, and other community patrons. (40%)
• Responsible for the operation of the individual campus library under the guidance and direction of the Executive Director of Library Services
• Stay abreast of current trends in library operations and functionality, maintain knowledge of library databases and systems, and work with other library personnel in carrying out the duties for the enhancement of library services for student, faculty, and staff usage.
• Maintains reference materials and provides assistance with reference sources. Supervise interlibrary loan services and operations. Assists the Executive Director of Library Services with the development of policies, procedures and goals to maximize library effectiveness, accessibility, and service functionality.
• Input and manage all media and collections material within the library electronic catalog management system (ALMA). Continually update as needed and participate in and provide proficiency training )in usage of system.
• Provide up to date computer lab facilities for student usage and provide online course proctoring services to students.
• Supervise Library Assistants and any other campus library support staff. Collaborate with other staff housed within the library facilities, such as advisors or temporary event staff, to maintain professional service quality.
Provide efficient and effective library acquisitions within budgetary allotment (15%)
• Develop and monitor operating expenses per the individual campus library budget.
• Continually assess campus library collections and conduct acquisitions. Collaborate with faculty and staff for the acquisition of needed collections and materials to meet the needs of individual college programs for maximization of educational and skills learning development and to comply with college and program accreditation criteria. Investigates, recommends, and implements technology products, innovations and databases to meet emerging needs of library.
Provide training and instruction on Library Services and on usage of library Resources. (20%)
• Schedule, coordinate, and deliver library class instruction and orientation sessions both live and virtually to college faculty, staff, and students and potentially other external patrons with an emphasis on GALILEO databases
• Provide student assistance on proper formatting of documents related to appropriate citing of library resources.
Collect and maintain library usage data, user surveys, and other quantitative measures to determine efficient and effective availability and library resource usage.(20%)
• Assess database extraction and other library service usage.
• Prepare and analyze corresponding reports of data usage for efficiency and continuous library services improvement.

Competencies
• Knowledge and proficiency of ALMA library catalog management system
• Knowledge of the methods of classifying, cataloging and shelf-listing books
• Knowledge of the Dewey decimal and Library of Congress classification systems
• Knowledge of bibliographies, card catalogs, indexes, guides, encyclopedias, and other reference materials used in the library
• Knowledge of appropriate research methods
• Good computer software skills as would be need to assist students with proctoring process and setup
• Interpersonal Skills - communicate effectively and courteously with faculty, staff, students and community users
• Proficiency in operation and usage of computer technology and other library and office equipment.
• General knowledge of the college and its programs
• Articulate and knowledgeable concerning library resources and services
• Ability to train and orient students, faculty, and staff concerning library resources, research methods and option, and a good understanding of database material extraction.
• Strong knowledge of citing, research, proper document formatting, and current available library database options
• Adequate understanding of library accreditation compliance
• Ability to work well with other faculty and staff.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional library environment. This role routinely uses standard library and office equipment and technologies.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products, books, library equipment, and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, located with a campus library. Days and hours of work are 40 hours per week typically within a range of Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 7:00 pm and Friday, 8 am until 12 pm. This position would require longer hours or weekend work in event of emergency or facility relocation.
Travel
Travel to other campus locations is sometimes required, as needed. Overnight travel would only be required for staff professional development or training.
Required Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association
accredited institution
Preferred Education and Experience
• Experience as lead librarian.
• Experience with library instruction, especially information literacy instruction.
• Experience with ALMA ILS or other similar library systems
