Communications & Outreach Specialist - Consumer Protection Division
The mission of the Department of Law is to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia by providing legal representation of the highest quality to the agencies, officers and employees of state government and by honorably and vigorously carrying out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. The position filled through this announcement will serve in the Consumer Protection Division.
Position Summary
The Communications & Outreach Specialist manages internal and external communication strategies for the Consumer Protection Division (Division 10). This role focuses on educating the public on critical consumer issues, resolving constituent inquiries, and maintaining digital and print communication assets. The Specialist ensures regulatory compliance across platforms while fostering a transparent connection between the agency and the community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Public Outreach & Community Education
- Present at public events across the state regarding specialized consumer protection issues and fraud prevention.
- Develop education guides and brochures, including targeted publications like the Older Adult Consumer Protection Guide, Military Consumer Protection Guide, and Cybersecurity Guide.
- Manage physical exhibits used to promote agency awareness at community gatherings and informational forums.
Digital Content & Website Management
- Draft public notifications, including immediate consumer alerts, press releases, web articles, web alerts, and strategic social media posts.
- Maintain official web platforms by updating articles, modifying web forms, fixing broken links, and auditing the Division 10 and ConsumerEd websites.
- Ensure ADA compliance across all digital touchpoints and web content architectures.
Complaint Intake & Media Support
- Monitor incoming complaints by reviewing the Division’s daily consumer complaint intake log to identify emerging fraud trends.
- Participate in industry webinars, conference calls, and professional conferences to keep agency methods updated.
- Resolve constituent issues by responding directly to consumer complaints and public inquiries.
- Assist media relations teams in drafting responses and organizing details for incoming press inquiries.
Internal Communications
- Publish internal newsletters detailing state regulatory updates, division metrics, and consumer trends.
- Coordinate recognition programs to honor employee achievements and division milestones.
- Execute administrative duties and other tasks assigned by division leadership.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience handling public sector information campaigns or consumer advocacy.
Language & Travel Requirements
- Statewide Travel: Up to 20% regional travel throughout the state to facilitate in-person events and workshops.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Salary & Compensation
- Starting Salary: $60’s annually (commensurate with experience).
