Job Summary:

Under direct supervision of experienced nursery workers, learns procedures and processes related to planting, cultivating and harvesting of tree seedlings, seeds, and pinecones. Operation of farm tractors and irrigation systems will also be expected.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Monitors nursery and seed orchard; irrigates, fertilizes and applies pesticides, and conducts appropriate cultural practices to increase production.

· Prepares land for nursery, seed orchards and genetic test establishment. Plant orchard and test trees and provides aftercare and appropriate cultural practices to insure growth and survival.

· Assist at nursery, cone shed and other tree improvement locations as needed.

· Frequent farm tractor and heavy equipment use will be expected. Some forklift work will also be expected.

· Some hand weeding of nursery beds will be expected.

· Pruning in established seed orchards

· Mowing on nursery and seed orchard grounds

Minimum Qualifications:

One or more years operating farm equipment in nursery or farm operations, or relevant similar work. High School Diploma/GED. Post high school training, courses, or certificates pertaining to forestry, horticulture and agronomy are a plus.
