Overview

Position Summary

Conduct testing of LLV products, including both field and lab testing, to determine the functionality, durability, and reliability of prototype and production designs.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive product testing of LLV products to accurately quantify product performance and durability.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art hardware and data analysis tools to produce reliable and accurate test data.
  • Write clear, comprehensive, and timely technical test reports which present factual information, recommendations, and conclusions resulting from thorough analysis of acquired test data.
  • Possess and maintain a working knowledge of all applicable data acquisition systems, measurement transducers, and related instrumentation, and be able to specify and use these devices to consistently compile accurate and useful engineering test data.
  • Maintain open communications with all internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Self-management of tasks to meet the project schedule.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current standard test methods as published by SAE, ANSI, ISO, and Yamaha Engineering Standards to provide accurate and useful test data.

Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • BS degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in testing/product evaluation
  • Ability to drive LLV products to evaluate function, performance, and durability per project scope
  • Knowledge and practical use of data acquisition equipment
  • Knowledge and practical use of sensors such as strain gauges, force transducers, LVDT, thermocouples, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of automobile technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of principles regarding mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge and use of standard hand tools.
  • Ability to read and follow directions from Yamaha test protocols, and industry standards
  • Ability to read and follow mechanical and electrical design/fabrication drawings to build protype vehicles and subsystems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in automotive and vehicle testing/product evaluation.
  • Ability to visualize and plan multiple technical assignments 1-6 months out into future.
  • Ability to determine root cause and solutions for technical issues
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials for both production and prototype quality.
  • Broad knowledge of technical problem solving.
  • Siemens NX 2D/3D knowledge.
  • Deep Cycle battery development.
  • Lithium-ion battery development.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion power systems
  • Knowledge of electrical motors and transmission systems
