SUMMARY:
Plan, organize, direct, and control the functions of an establishment or department through subordinates at the managerial or supervisory level. Managers make decisions and establish objectives for the department or establishment. May directly supervise a staff that performs various support services, on the other hand, develop departmental plans, set goals and deadlines, implement procedures to improve productivity and customer service, and define the responsibilities of supervisory-level managers. Safety manager directly supervises staff by providing goals, direction, responsibilities, project plans, performance reviews, coaching and follow up. Position works cross-functionally with other areas and interacts with government, third party, community, and corporate officials. Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, management systems and ability to apply programs in industrial manufacturing environment required. They may also be involved in the hiring and dismissal of employees.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for creating, improving, and maintaining safety programs to meet regulatory and corporate requirements.
Supervise, coach, and manage safety and health staff, contractors and consultants to achieve implementation of proactive risk-based safety and health programs.
Develop and implement safety program specific training materials and communication. Ensure coordination and completion of reports and job hazard analysis (JHA).
Lead safety project/program and risk management implementation utilizing project management skills.
Coordinate and conduct internal audits, accident investigations, root cause analysis and preventative / corrective action activities.
Provide leadership for employee safety committees, ergonomic leadership teams, exec management committee and safety team through communication and by identifying and implementing safety program improvements.
Manage and ensure process for review of new materials / equipment / processes for safety requirements and timely implementation. Develop and manage safety expense and capital budgets. Lead Health / Safety, ISO and CSR activities.
Review new materials / processes for safety requirements and assist with implementation.
Support environmental and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 activities as needed for cross functional collaboration.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Project management skills and ability to lead multiple projects with cross-functional teams is required.
Computer skills required (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills required.
Advanced Data analysis and reporting skills required.
Knowledge of and ability to apply Occupational Safety and Health Act Standards, ANSI and NFPA.
Experience with workers compensation is required.
Experience with safety management system implementation, auditing, and improvement (ISO 45001, Job Hazard Assessment, Risk Management) is required
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year Degree (in Safety Engineering or Safety Management) and a minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial manufacturing facility safety position.
Master’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) preferred
