MAU is hiring a Controls Engineer for our client in Gainesville, GA. As a Controls Engineer, you will design, program, and deploy automated and mechatronic systems to improve safety, productivity, and reliability across manufacturing operations. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Shift Information

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a related field
  • OR 3+ years of industry experience in software development, programming, or engineering/IT disciplines
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC platforms
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Experience with HMI design and development
  • Experience with MES systems (data collection, visualization, quality, efficiency)
  • Project management experience
  • Programming experience with Visual Basic, C, C++, or Python

Essential Functions
  • Develop, modify, and optimize PLC programs using Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi platforms for production equipment
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers to design, specify, build, test, and commission mechatronic systems
  • Research new technologies, evaluate equipment, and collaborate with vendors and internal teams to engineer controls solutions
  • Lead and support maintenance technicians in troubleshooting controls issues and reducing downtime
  • Analyze recurring equipment problems, identify root causes, and implement long-term corrective actions
  • Build and maintain relationships with automation suppliers and evaluate new vendors and technologies
  • Create equipment specifications, manage procurement, and oversee installation of automation and controls hardware
  • Integrate automation systems with the MES platform in collaboration with IT
  • Develop and maintain controls standards to ensure consistency and best practices
  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation including schematics, operator instructions, and risk assessments
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, design reviews, and installation plans from concept through launch
  • Support development of preventive maintenance strategies for automated equipment
  • Train manufacturing and maintenance teams on new systems and processes
  • Communicate system performance, failures, and improvement opportunities to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay current with automation technologies and industry standards including NEC, NFPA, and IEC
  • Support operations during off-shift or weekend activities as needed
  • Assist teammates to support shifting priorities and maintain a collaborative engineering environment
